The Flute Pedagogy Project
Mission
We exist to commission composers from historically underrepresented communities to write music for beginner and intermediate flutists. We provide free, diverse repertoire for middle and high school flutists, promoting inclusivity, representation, and identity exploration through music.
Vision
We envision a world where beginner and intermediate flutists can easily access music that represents diverse identities, including their own, at a developmentally appropriate level. Diversity belongs in music.
Our Process
The Flute Pedagogy Project started at the dining room table in Izzy and Ella's college apartment. After several meetings around the University of Michigan's North Campus with Mattie and many passing conversations in the hallways of the Moore Building, the Flute Pedagogy Project was born. Within the next year, we received our first grant, accomplished 501(c)3 status, and began working with the University of Michigan's EXCEL program as Performing Arts EXCELerator Fellows.
This picture was taken outside of the Moore building after our second grant proposal.
